The closest airport to Hamnøy in Moskenes Municipality in western Lofoten is Leknes Airport.
Leknes is a small town in the middle of the Lofoten Islands. From Leknes Airport, there is a one hour drive to Hamnøy Island by car.
You can also get public transport by bus from Leknes to Hamnøy (Toppøya bus stop).
There is also an airport in Svolvær, the “capital” of Lofoten, located around two hours north of Hamnøy Island by car or public bus.
Lastly, Evenes Airport is located to the north of Lofoten, between the towns Harstad and Narvik. From Evenes, the drive to Hamnøy is around five hours.
Fly from Bodø to Leknes or Svolvær with Wideroe Airline, a short 25 minute flight. You can also fly to Leknes and Svolvær from Tromsø Airport.

How do I get around Lofoten, do I need a car?
It is definitely an advantage to have a car to get around Lofoten.
There is public transport, but not in abundance, and there are more bus departures in the summer season than during winter. In western Lofoten (west of Leknes) there is NO taxi service available, but some companies offer private transport.
What are the costs, is it expensive in Lofoten?
Norway in general is not a cheap destination, and Lofoten which is an Arctic archipelago above the Arctic circle is no exception.
Public transport is the best budget option to get around Lofoten, while rental car is the best option that offers most flexibility. Expect that accommodation and restaurant dining in Lofoten is quite expensive.
How do I get to Reine, and how far is it from major access points?
Reine is the name of a village and an area, and Hamnøy is located less than 10 minutes from the center of Reine.
The journey to Reine is one hour from Leknes, two hours from Svolvær, and five hours from Evenes. You can also take a ferry from Bodø to Moskenes (10 minutes from Reine). The beautiful ferry trip across the West Fjord is about three and a half hours.
When is the best time to visit?
Each season in Lofoten has it charm, so it depends what you want to experience.
Summer is great for hiking, kayaking, and experiencing the midnight sun. This is also when the Lofoten Islands see most visitors, so you will not be alone anywhere.
Winter is great for Northern Lights, experiencing the Polar night, and you can expect to come “up close and personal” with the Arctic elements.
Shoulder seasons can be anything weatherwise. Late spring and early autumn is still good for hiking, and there will be less travelers and less traffic.
Early spring and late autumn will generally have extremely variable weather, from perfect sunny days to fierce storms. Shoulder seasons are best for budget travelers, with lower prices of transport and accommodation.
